The manufacturers of defective siding back in the 1990s had to pay enormous sums of money to property owners whose homes and other structures were covered with a product made from pressed wood particles and other materials. After the year 2000, many siding contractors were also sued for having selected those defective materials, sometimes knowing they were defective, sometimes not. It became quite the fiasco as insurance companies covering contractors battled the lawsuits, denying claims and pointing the blame at the manufacturer. It was a turbulent time for the commercial insurance industry, which forced insurance companies to rewrite contractors’ policy coverages and limit coverage for such things as mold and defective materials on property policies.
